All this trouble started with the Lutz family who bought the now infamous house on Ocean Avenue in 1975. According to the family, shortly after they moved in unsettling supernatural occurrences began and became so intense that the family fled the house in the middle of the night. In 1977, Jay Anson wrote a book about their story and the first movie version of that book appeared in 1979. You can listen to the Lutzes describe their experiences in the house in their full interview with Good Morning America from 1979.
