The mission of the Windham High School Library is to promote literacy, learning, critical thinking, and the educated use of information and resources to all students so that they may successfully learn and compete in an information-rich world.
PHILOSOPHY
The library is the hub of the school, where all patrons have a right to intellectual freedom: to their own thoughts, beliefs, and ideas. Access to information is essential to a democratic society. The librarians at Windham High School will continuously strive to provide our patrons with a wide variety of resources and encourage collaboration and open dialogue. We will follow policies, like those found on the American Library Association (ALA) website, that protect our patrons’ privacy while allowing as much information as is legally available. We will also do our best to follow the ALA’s Code of Ethics and Library Bill of Rights but recognize that a balance will need to be found in order to realistically meet the needs of our patrons.
LEADERSHIP
HOW WE LEAD STUDENTS:
-
We demonstrate how to use information wisely and safely in a variety of content areas to ensure deep understanding.
-
We encourage students to read for enjoyment in order to foster a lifelong love of adventure, exploration, and escape through books.
-
We inspire students to think on a higher level and deconstruct information more effectively through lessons and projects.
HOW WE LEAD STAFF:
-
We regularly attend department, BAC, DLT, and other meetings in order to provide information in our various areas of expertise.
-
We provide curated resources in a variety of formats to meet the needs of all staff.
-
We collaborate with staff in order to create robust and authentic units of instruction.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
This year we were finally able to implement the School Library Program Standards! Now, instead of being evaluated on teacher standards, which are only somewhat applicable, all certified librarians are to be evaluated on librarian standards.

NEW TECHNOLOGY WEBSITE
The new Library and Information
Technology (LIT) Department created a website for the Technology Department to better meet the needs of the district. Items we added to the site include links to Swank Movie Streaming, Laptop Insurance forms, AI Resources, and more. Check it out by clicking on the button below.
NEW LIBRARY INFOTECH (LIT) DEPARTMENT
Over the years, the need for a liaison between the technology department and staff has become apparent. Finding a department for teachers of technology-related subjects was also deemed necessary. From this, a new department was created: the Library and Information Technology Department...or LIT. Over the course of this year, we have worked to create a line of communication between the members of the tech team and teachers and staff who feel unheard at times. See the agenda for items we discussed and problems we were able to solve.
